Mitochondrial cocktail enhances heart protection
Melatonin/nicotinamide mononucleotide/ubiquinol: a cocktail providing superior cardioprotection against ischemia/reperfusion injury in a common co-morbidities modelled rat.
We designed a study with male Wistar rats, aged 22-24 months and induced with type-2 diabetes, to investigate how a combination of three mitochondrial agents—melatonin, nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), and ubiquinol—could provide protection against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, especially in the context of aging and diabetes.
The rats were split into groups receiving different treatments, including some that received the cocktail of supplements just during the reperfusion phase after inducing I/R injury. Over 28 days leading up to the tests, rats received NMN, while melatonin and ubiquinol were administered as the heart was being revived after ischemia.
The results indicated that the combination therapy notably enhanced heart protection and improved mitochondrial function and biogenesis in these aged diabetic rats. While ubiquinol was an important part of this cocktail, it is essential to view its role as one among several synergistic agents. This points to exciting possibilities for improved heart health strategies, particularly for older individuals with diabetes.

Combination therapy improves heart health
Superior Anti-arrhythmogenic Effect of Combined Conditioning with Nicotinamide Mononucleotide and Ubiquinol in Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Aged Rats.
We examined the combined effects of nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and ubiquinol on heart health, particularly focusing on how they impact lethal heart rhythms following a heart attack in aged rats. The study involved 30 male Wistar rats, including groups with and without myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury, as well as those receiving either NMN, ubiquinol, or both.
By administering NMN for a month before the heart attack and intravenously injecting ubiquinol during early reperfusion, we aimed to see how these treatments could reduce oxidative stress and improve nitric oxide levels. Our findings showed that the combination therapy had a notable anti-arrhythmic effect, helping to counteract the damaging heart rhythms often experienced after such serious incidents.
Although our research indicates that this combination treatment may offer better heart protection during aging, we recognize the need for more investigations to fully explore this potential and understand the precise effects of each component, particularly ubiquinol. Overall, our study highlights the promising role of combining therapies to enhance heart health in older adults.

Post-heart attack recovery

Excellent! My mother, aged 70, suffered a heart attack and has had arrhythmia attacks. She feels fine now after taking this supplement alongside omega 3.
A heart attack, also known as myocardial infarction, occurs when blood flow to a part of the heart is blocked, often by a blood clot. This interruption can damage or destroy part of the heart muscle, leading to serious health complications or death if not treated promptly. Common symptoms include chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea, and lightheadedness. Risk factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, and a sedentary lifestyle.
Preventing a heart attack largely revolves around maintaining a heart-healthy lifestyle. Regular exercise, a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, along with managing stress, can significantly lower the risk. Furthermore, understanding your personal risk factors and engaging with healthcare professionals for regular check-ups can be crucial in both prevention and early detection. If you suspect someone is having a heart attack, it's important to call emergency services immediately, as timely treatment is vital for survival and recovery.
Ubiquinol CoQ10 is the active and bioavailable form of Coenzyme Q10, a natural compound that our bodies produce and is found in every cell. It plays a crucial role in energy production within the mitochondria, often referred to as the "powerhouse" of the cell, and is key for maintaining cellular energy levels. Ubiquinol is also a potent antioxidant, helping to protect cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals, which can contribute to aging and various diseases.
As we age, our body's ability to synthesize CoQ10 decreases, prompting many people to turn to supplements for support. Ubiquinol supplements are especially beneficial for those looking to boost their heart health, increase energy levels, or improve recovery after exercise. When shopping for Ubiquinol, it’s essential to look for high-quality options from reputable brands, ensuring you get a product that has been third-party tested for purity and potency. Always consult with a healthcare professional before adding any supplement to your routine, especially if you have existing health conditions or are taking medication.
Based on user reviews, individuals taking ubiquinol for heart health often report noticing improvements within a few days to weeks of consistent use. For instance, one user indicated that they saw significant improvements in sleep and energy levels just three days after starting the supplement following a heart attack Read Review. Long-term users also commented on the positive effects they experienced after two to six months of use, underscoring the potential for sustained benefits, such as improved energy levels and normalization of heart function Read ReviewRead Review. Overall, while some users feel initial benefits quite rapidly, observing substantial changes in heart health may take several weeks or even months of consistent supplementation.
The research supports the use of certain supplements for heart health, particularly in the context of heart attacks, though more studies are needed for definitive conclusions. One study investigated the combined effects of nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and ubiquinol on heart health in aged rats. The study found that this combination therapy offered significant protection against lethal heart rhythms following a heart attack, indicating potential for these supplements to enhance heart health in older adults [1].
Another study examined a mitochondrial cocktail, including NMN and ubiquinol, in aging diabetic rats, showcasing improvements in heart protection and mitochondrial function. This reinforces the idea that combining supplements can be beneficial for heart health, especially in populations at risk, such as the elderly and those with diabetes [2]. However, while these initial findings are promising, further research is necessary to fully understand the impact and efficacy of these supplements in human subjects.
Many users have reported significant improvements in energy levels, heart function, and overall well-being after taking ubiquinol. While some users advocate for combining supplements, it's essential to consider individual health situations, as results may vary. However, the general consensus among users suggests that integrating ubiquinol with other heart-supportive supplements can potentially enhance the overall effectiveness of heart health management. One user remarked that after using ubiquinol for an extended period, they experienced beneficial changes alongside other supplements, resulting in a more robust heart health regimen Read Review.
Based on user reviews, many individuals have found success using Ubiquinol CoQ10 after experiencing heart attacks. Reports suggest a general trend toward enhanced energy levels and improved heart function. One user noted that they saw significant improvements within just three days of starting the supplement, mentioning better sleep and energy Read Review. Others suggested it could even eliminate the need for additional medications, as seen in a review where a user combined Ubiquinol with omega-3 supplements to manage their heart health effectively Read Review.
As for the right dosage, several reviews indicate that taking around 200mg daily may be beneficial. For instance, one user specifically mentioned this dosage to support heart health and protect against fatigue Read Review. Excellent! In December, I began improving my immunity with a nutritionist. Ubiquinol was one of the supplements prescribed. Coenzyme Q10 maintains women's health by supporting reproductive function, stabilising hormonal balance, and reducing the risk of heart attack. After six months, I've certainly noticed positive results.
